I am Poem

I am…

I am…

A daughter, raised by two alcoholics, for the first two years of my life, growing up in apartments with barely paid rent, littered with Crown Royale bottles

A granddaughter, to two amazing people whom I have lived with for 16 years, and mean the world to me, teaching me old fashioned manners, and telling stories of living in the 1930’s

An only child, teaching myself how to read, how to ride a bike, and finding a love for television, and internet

A girlfriend to Dane, my first boyfriend, and major part of my high school career, the guy who will make me a Caesar salad and cuddle while watching Netflix, console me while I cry, and put up with every weird habit I’ve ever had, still while loving me with all his heart

A best friend to Desiree, my friend of eight years now, whether it’s playing piccolo in band together, trying to work out, or going to McDonalds to order 2 cheeseburgers, we are always there for one another

I am…

Chocolate chip cookies, 2 cheeseburgers, and a chicken quesadilla (extra chipotle sauce), sweet tea, pumpkin spice lattes, dr. pepper, and tiramisu

Memory foam mattresses, Queen size only, with a leg pillow and teddy bear (named Passenger)

Indie, Cher CD’s, Fall Out Boy, punk-rock, classic 80’s, contemporary, dubstep, and old Sinatra records

Bargain deals at JC Penny, forever 21, and kohl’s

A yellow lanyard with a yellow tag, hanging on my rearview mirror waiting to be replaced with brown and gold tassels

A black bowtie with white oxford shirts, and Steak n Shake apron, with, hopefully, cash in my middle pocket

Going to cemeteries, parks, and libraries with Dane enjoying each other’s presence  and taking in the scenery, simple appreciation for atmosphere

I am…

17 years young, with all the world has to offer, staring me in face

Eyes the color of coffee with no cream, Caucasian, with brown hair- naturally straight and getting lighter every summer, and darker every winter

Listening and caring, always full of advice, even if it’s not always the best, strongly opinionated, craving peaceful attitudes, and a calming surrounding

Sarcastic and sometimes brutally harsh, but always truthful

Bitten fingernails, and dark circles

Eyeliner on top, mascara, curled eyelashes and a pinch of blush

Comfy and cozy clothing, preferring a L or XL even though I’m only a medium

Young, naïve, in love, and still have much to learn

  1. So many great lines here, Carissa. Your opening is especially powerful. I'm sure your grandparents are so proud of the girl you've grown up to be. Thanks for creting a blog--I have not figured out the Dr. Who phenomenon yet, but your background is pretty! :)
